This year I would like to encourage you to read the labels of foods you buy. I will list some of the common ingredients you should look for and AVOID.
GMO products – unless it says non-GMO on the package, don’t buy it. Genetically modified corn is cheaper and so unhealthy. There are so many potential health risks from cancer to infertility to diabetes, etc. You get pesticides inside and outside the product, such as corn.
High Fructose Corn Syrup – Causes, among other health issues, obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, dementia, and accelerated aging. It triggers inflammation and causes digestive issues.
Trans Fats (hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils – these are “fake” fats and are detrimental to your health, causing such issues as: headaches, PMS, hot flashes, skin problems, asthma, arthritis, and joint pain – as well as chronic diseases such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, heart attacks, and strokes.
MSG – Some adverse affects include: Obesity, Eye damage, Headaches Fatigue and disorientation! and Depression. Other symptoms you may experience include: Numbness, Burning sensation, Tingling, Facial pressure or tightness, Chest pain or difficulty breathing, Headache, Nausea, Rapid heartbeat, Drowsiness, and Weakness.
Artificial Colors – Made from petroleum, has a carcinogenic effect, increases ADHD, has an estrogenic effect which increases risk of breast cancer, among other things. Some countries have banned artificial dyes and coloring. Organic foods are not allowed to include this in their products.
Artificial Sweetners – They are made from chemicals that are harmful and very toxic. Can neurological issues, and like most chemicals can be becoming addicting.
The best thing is to choose real food over processed foods, eat organic fruits and veggies when possible (especially berries), eat whole grains, incorporate healthy fats, replace dessert type yogurt with Greek yogurt, and be a wise, label reading consumer.
